Asplenium septentrionale (L.) Hoffm. |
Asplenium septentrionale is a species of fern known by the common names northern spleenwort and forked spleenwort. It is native to western North America, Europe, and Asia, where it grows in rocky areas.
Asplenium septentrionale grows in tufts from rock cracks and looks very much like a grass. It has flat leaves which may be simple or forked and are green in color, sometimes with reddish tinting at the bases. The leaves have usually one sorus each, but they may have more.
